Putting your business on the map
It used to be that all you needed was a yellow pages advertisement and a business name that started with an A so that you would be the first in the list. In this day and age of the World Wide Web you need to have an internet presence that honestly identifies your business to prospective clients and makes it easy for them to find what they are looking for. The net is so much more than a way for prospective customers to find you; it can be the solution to a number of common business problems.

Going wireless?
Behind my desk is a rat’s nest of wires. Our houses and offices have holes and wires running all through them. Some of you are scared to move your electronics because you don’t know where all the wires go. I can picture a utopian world free of wires where all our devices interrelate with no problems and everything is safe and secure. It is not here yet but utopia is on the horizon for computers at least. There have been two major stumbling blocks for wireless devices: speed and security. Speed is now very good for wireless networks and security is about to be very good as well.

Voice over IP (VoIP)
It seems not so long ago that Bell Canada had a monopoly on telephone service. I remember as a student that some months the telephone bill was $600 for long distance. Now we get upset if the monthly bill is more than $50. Times change and technology changes with it. Now you can buy monthly plans for long distance and call as much as you want. There is another technology peeking its head around the corner to stir up the market: Voice over Internet Protocol or VoIP.
